Description

Le Rouge et le Noir is named for Stendhal’s 1830 novel the book that invented the idea of a protagonist too vivid, too ambitious, and too genuinely alive to fit comfortably into the world around him. The collection applies exactly that principle to a lounge configuration: one red sofa so formally and chromatically extreme that every other element in the room organises itself around it, two black velvet chairs that hold the composition’s shadow side with quiet ornamental authority, and raw wood tables that keep the whole arrangement honest. Three pieces. Two colours. One clear hierarchy. No hesitation.

The Licorice sofa in red is the collection’s absolute protagonist and the most sculpturally singular sofa in the catalog. Its form a long, sinuous S-curve or wave in fire-engine red, the seat flowing from one level to another across its length in a single continuous gesture belongs to no historical period and no design tradition.

It is simply a sofa that decided its surface should move, and executed that decision in the most vivid colour available. Set against raw brick walls under warm amber uplighting, the red Licorice reads less like furniture and more like a brushstroke the kind of red that makes every other element in the room recalibrate its relationship to colour and space.

Its S-curve form also does something compositionally that no straight sofa can: it creates seating that faces in two directions simultaneously, one end oriented toward the Barok chairs, the other toward the open room, giving a single sofa the social geometry of an entire seating group.

The two Barok chairs in black are the collection’s formal and chromatic counterweight their deep black velvet upholstery and high-backed silhouette with ornate carved or moulded back detail providing the dark side of the composition’s red-and-black dialogue with a period-referencing decorative confidence that echoes the Stendhal era without imitating it.

Set on slender gold or pale wood legs, the Barok’s combination of heavy dark velvet and light, refined base creates a visual tension weight above, delicacy belo— that makes the chair appear simultaneously monumental and effortless, an effect that amplifies rather than competes with the Licorice’s horizontal drama.

The Geppetto side tables in warm wood are the collection’s material exhale their honest, round-topped, turned-wood-base form in pale natural timber providing the composition’s single unpretentious element, the surface that holds a cocktail glass and a coffee table book without making any claims of its own, and in doing so, makes everything around them more vivid by contrast.
